A Community Vanished: Madison’s Segregated Black Neighborhood before 1965 and the Civil Rights Era
$20.00 – $27.00
This 26-page booklet published by JCHS tells about the Black families and businesses that thrived here, and shows what still exists and what has been lost. Much of the information comes from the reminiscences of life-long Madison resident Lillian Sue Wells Livers. Additional information was found by researching city directories, family files, genealogies, digital photographs, and other resources here at the History & Art Center, and through online services, including Ancestry.com, FamilySearch.org, and others. Research was conducted by Jefferson County Historical Society staff and volunteers.
