Educational Programs Heritage Days

A springtime adventure in local history for Jefferson County fourth-graders.

Each May, the Jefferson County Historical Society partners with Historic Madison Inc. and the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site to offer an adventure in history to fourth graders throughout Jefferson County.

The adventure includes visits to a variety of historic sites in and around Madison, as well as tours museums of the Local History and 1895 Passenger Station museums at the JCHS History & Art Center. Armed with a scavenger hunt, students are challenged to try to find information throughout the Center.

Other sites visited include the beautiful Lanier Mansion and two sites of Historic Madison, Inc.’s choosing.

There is a FREE 45 minute in-class presentation available prior to the field trip.  This has been proven to be an excellent source of “pre-knowledge” about the event, and students have a better takeaway of the information provided during the event.
