Educational Programs Heritage Days
A springtime adventure in local history for Jefferson County fourth-graders.
Each spring, the Jefferson County Historical Society partners with Historic Madison Inc. and the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site to offer an adventure in history to fourth graders throughout Jefferson County.
The adventure includes visits to a variety of historic sites in and around Madison, as well as tours of the Local History and 1895 Passenger Station museums at the JCHS History & Art Center. Armed with our “Seek & Find Treasure Hunt Challenge” booklet, students are challenged to try to find the artifacts throughout the museums based on pictures in the booklet, which also provides students with the historical significance of the items they find.
Other sites visited include the Schroeder Saddle Tree Factory museum and the beautiful Lanier Mansion.
