From the fly leaf of the book, it’s the story of “patriotic devotion in time of war- both on the part of the military personnel who manned the post and on the part of the score of families who had to vacate their homes to provide land for the opertion in 1941-’42.” The author, Sue Baker, had ancestors who lived in the area that was to become the Jefferson Proving Ground, which is what inspired her to research and write this book.
