Plan Your Visit Dive Into Jefferson County History

We welcome you to explore our local history museum and railroad museum. You’ll find displays to interest all ages.

Museums & Exhibits

The History & Art Center is open to the public for self-guided tours from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and on Saturdays as announced. (Check our calendar.)

Admission is $5 for adults; children 16 and younger and Jefferson County Historical Society members (and their guests) are admitted free.

Research Library & Archives

The Research Library at the History & Art Center is open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday by appointment only. Please visit the Collections/Research Library page and fill out a research request form. You also can set up your own appointment here.

The research request form asks for specifics about the information you are looking for, including names, dates, places, or events you want to research. Our staff will search our archives for materials that might be helpful to you before your in-person visit. This is important; in some cases, we may find a lot of items for you to peruse during your appointment. However, if there are only a few documents (or in rare cases, nothing) on your research targets, we can save you a trip by digitizing them and sending them to you via email for a nominal fee.

What can we help you find?
